Reds face must-win contest against Besiktas

Soccer Betting Lines

11/05/2007 - Liverpool, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Liverpool has its back against the wall and must produce a win on Tuesday at Anfield against Besiktas to keep hope alive of advancing in the Champions League.

The Reds entered Group A as favorites, but proceeded to draw with FC Porto, before dropping its last two games against Marseille and Besiktas.

After reaching the final of last year's competition, Rafael Benitez and his men now sit at the bottom of the table, six points behind leaders Marseille and four adrift of second-place FC Porto.

Benitez and Liverpool may get a boost with the return of striker Fernando Torres, who is battling an adductor strain and was back in training on Monday.

Liverpool has scored just two goals in its first three games and can use all the offensive weapons it can get. The team is without Xabi Alonso (metatarsal) for a month, while defender Daniel Agger is still out as well.

The team has created plenty of chances in its first three games, but its failure to put goals away in the final third has let them down time and again.

With some better finishing, Liverpool could very easily win its final three games and still grab a spot in the next round, but they now have no room for error.

In Group A's other contest on Tuesday, surprise leaders Marseille host Porto with the French club holding a two-point advantage on the Portuguese side.

Chelsea have a three-point lead over the rest of the field in Group B, and they travel to Germany to meet Schalke. The London side downed Schalke 2-0 last time out, and they can all but clinch a spot in the second round with another victory, while second-place Rosenborg visits Valencia. The Spanish club is reeling after firing its coach and going through a tough stretch in La Liga, but they can take a big step forward with a win over the surprising Norwegian outfit.

Olympiakos had the lead in Group C after two rounds of games, but they dropped a 4-2 contest to Real Madrid in their last game, and host the Spanish champions on Tuesday in an effort to reclaim the top spot. The Greek club trails Real by three points, while the bottom two clubs, Werder Bremen and Lazio, square off at the Stadio Olimpico.

Shakhtar Donetsk will be looking for revenge when AC Milan comes to town with both teams sitting level on points at the top of Group D. Milan easily handled the Ukrainian side 4-1 at the San Siro last time out, but Shakhtar will be hoping for at least a point to keep themselves in a good position to advance. Benfica earned its first win of the competition last time out against Celtic, and they will try to make it two straight when they travel to Celtic Park.

Wednesday's action features two Premiership teams, Arsenal and Manchester United, who can both secure spots in the second round with wins.

The Gunners are currently 3-0 in Group H, and visit Slavia Prague needing three points for a spot in the next round, while the other game in the group is between Sevilla and Steaua Bucurest. Sevilla can also all but secure passage if they win and Arsenal beats Slavia.

United can go through in front of its home fans if they down Dynamo Kiev at Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson's team beat the Ukrainian side 4-2 last time out, and should have no problem repeating their victory. Roma can also sit comfortably with a win as they square off against Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.

Group E leaders Barcelona and Rangers will meet up once again after the two teams played to a 0-0 draw at the Ibrox. Neither side looked interested in winning the game, but both are still in a good position to advance. That's because they both hold a four-point lead on third-place Lyon, who can get back in contention with another win against Stuttgart. The French champions beat the German squad 2-0 last time out, and must do so again if they want to advance past the group stage.

The tightest group at the top is easily Group G, with the top three teams separated by only two points. Inter Milan leads the group with six points and has a winnable game at home against CSKA Moscow, while the group's other game is a battle for second place between Fenerbahce and PSV Eindhoven. PSV trails the Turkish side by one point, but they could only manage a 0-0 draw with Fenerbahce on home soil, and now must travel to Sukru Saracoglu to face a very difficult atmosphere.

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year

Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.

Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.

With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.

Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year betting lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.

Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.

Super Bowl XLIII Betting - Super Bowl 2009

Super Bowl 2009, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Let’s take a look at the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds and the betting line and figure out where they’ve been and where they are going to go.

MySportsbook.com put up the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds late on Sunday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers favored by 6.5 points and a total betting line at 47.5 points.

Since then, however, the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds have seen a good deal of movement and you’ll want to be on top of where they are likely to move to make sure you get the best line value for the big game.

Since opening, the Super Bowl 2009 betting lines went to Steelers -7 in the span of roughly 3 hours but were quickly bought back down just minutes later to 6.5 again.

After that is took about 5-6 more hours before the betting line went back to -7 where it has sat for a while now and is likely to remain. The opening betting total of 47.5 was bet down right after the line became available and went to 47 within minutes.

Roughly a day later it has been bet even further down to the 46.5 tally it currently is set at.

Roughly 60% of gamblers seem to be on the Cardinals here so the point spread will be bet down and a 7.5 would not last very long at all with many taking the early 6.5 in hopes of finding a potential middle in the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds.

If you like Arizona and see a 7.5, I’d take it as soon as possible because it’s unlikely to last. For Pittsburgh backers, the -7 might be the best you’ll be able to find but a 6.5 is definitely possible close to game time.

Regarding the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds for the total, most tracked gamblers are already on the over and with those who took the under 47.5 already securing a middle on the over 46.5, the only way I see it moving is back up to 47 so if you like the over, I’d recommend betting now.
